Dominic Muro’s Original New York Bakery & Deli has produced baked bread for restaurants and delis throughout the Norwalk area, to complement its popular breakfast and lunch counter.
Muro took over New York Bakery from his father-in=law in 1967. The bakery moved to 52 Main St. after the flood of 1955 destroyed its earlier location on River Street.
Leo Spinelli has offered to buy the bakery, with Muro accepting. On Friday, May 18 Muro expressed enthusiasm and relief for the late intervention by Spinelli, according to this report.
Spinelli operates Uncle Leo’s Not Just Bagels in the Georgetown district of Redding, previously running Spinelli’s Not Just Bagels in Norwalk.
Spinelli secured space in 2016 for a new Uncle Leo’s location in Wilton -- and said he plans to open at its Danbury Road location by the end of this month or in early June.
Last week, Muro had said several factors left him no choice but to close, including the parking situation in Norwalk. Muro's wholesale business -- with more than 60 customers -- will continue uninterrupted.
